THE traditional ruler of Ogor kingdom, and leaders of Oviri-Ogor community in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State, have called on security agents to thoroughly investigate and prosecute those responsible for the forging of the monarch stamp signature on the newly 2023 reviewed constitution of Oviri-Ogor community.
The monarch, HRM Okiemute Onajite, Igere I, had in an affidavit sworn to an oath on January 24, 2024, called for the investigation and possibly prosecution of the culprits that forged his signature in the 2023 constitution of Oviri-Ogor community as contained in paragraph 4 of the affidavit.
The elders had in a petition addressed to AIG Zone 5, and the Delta State Commissioner of Police held that, it is only at the annual general conference that powers to review, amend and or alter any of the provisions of the constitution can be made as enshrined in article 16(c) of the 2015 constitution of Oviri-Ogor community.
According to the petition, “The leadership of the community has no right to alter the constitution without an annual conference but from a very close observation, it was discovered that the Constitution Review Committee, lifted the signature stamp of monarch from the old constitution of 2015 and payed it on the new constitution of 2023.
They held that the signature stamp that was use on the 2023 was the first signature stamp of the monarch when he ascended throne and it was declared missing since 2019.
“The monarch procured a new signature stamp which is quite different from his old one that was lifted and pasted on the 2023 constitution.
The petition signed by Akpotor David, Akpoyerabor John, Barr Abraham Whisky, Samuel Odudu and four others, urged the police authorities to thoroughly investigate the criminal forgery by the constitution review committee and their collaborators in the crime.”
